The report of 1 September 1915 records visits to the shop of Thomas J Clarke, 75 Parnell Street, by Major John MacBride and John McGarry, followed by Con Colbert, Thomas Byrne, Frank Fahy, Diarmuid Lynch, Seán T Ó Ceallaigh, Piaras Béaslaí and Charles J Kickham.

Michael J O’Rahilly is observed in Dame Street, while Arthur Griffith, William O’Leary Curtis and James Murray are observed in Sackville Street [O’Connell Street].

It is reported that Mrs Newman, sister of Sir Roger Casement, is due to leave Ireland for Liverpool en route to New York.

John Milroy, ‘who has been released from Prison’, is observed in Dame Street.

A meeting of Bulmer Hobson, Patrick H Pearse, Michael J O’Rahilly and Edward [Éamon] De Valera is reported in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street.

The remainder of the report provides some background information on De Valera, who is described as someone ‘of Spanish origin and is said to have been born in England’. He ‘lately takes an active interest in the organising work’ of the Irish Volunteers.

The report of 3 September 1915 records visits to the shop of Thomas J Clarke, 75 Parnell Street, by John Milroy, followed by Seán T Ó Ceallaigh, [James] O’Connor, Diarmuid Lynch and William O’Leary Curtis.

Michael J O’Rahilly is observed on Sackville Street [O’Connell Street], followed later in the day by Piaras Béaslaí, Arthur Griffith and William O’Leary Curtis.

Around 65 members of the ‘Sinn Fein Volunteers, 8 of whom carried rifles’ marched from Parnell Square towards Fairview under the command of Frank Fahy.

Mrs Newman, sister of Sir Roger Casement, is reported to have booked a passage on the SS St Paul, which will depart Liverpool for New York on the 4 September 1915.

Report of 6 September 1915

The report of 6 September 1915 records visits to the shop of Thomas J Clarke, 75 Parnell Street, on Saturday 4 September by Frank Fahy and Con Colbert, followed by James Murray, Piaras Béaslaí and Con Collins. On Sunday 5 September, Clarke was visited by John McGarry, [James] O’Connor, Edward Daly, Ben Parsons, James J Buggy and Joseph McGuinness.

The arrival of Terence J McSwiney by train from Cork on Saturday is noted, as is the departure by Jeremiah J O’Connell for Athlone.

Bulmer Hobson and Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows are reported meeting in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street.

Gerald Griffin is observed meeting with JJ Walsh in the latter’s shop at 26 Blessington Street. The report notes Griffin ‘is the pro-German and Sinn Fein Volunteer employed by the Military Authorities in the Army Audit Office, Ship St. He is also one of those included in the War B List, DMP Area’.

An annotation on the report asks ‘Is Gerard Griffin still employed by the Military Authorities? Have you any word of a report on him having been made to them’.

Griffin is observed with MJ McCabe on Sunday in Dorset Street. McCabe is described as ‘pro-German and Transport Workers’ Union’.

The report concludes with the march of around ‘20 members of the Sinn Fein Volunteers carrying rifles’ from 41 Parnell Square to St Enda’s, Rathfarnham, where a Gaelic tournament was in progress.

Frank Fahy is observed at Islandbridge and Major John MacBride is seen in Sackville Street [O’Connell Street]. The departure of Patrick H Pearse by train to Ballinrobe is noted.

Bulmer Hobson, Patrick Ryan, Con Colbert and Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows are reported meeting in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street.

A description is given of the assembly of ’40 Sinn Fein Volunteers without rifles’ at Parnell Square and their march towards Jones’ Road.

The report concludes with details of a meeting planned for the Phoenix Park to protest against the imprisonment of Irish Volunteers, which is due to be presided over by Alderman Laurence O’Neill and addressed by Alderman Thomas Kelly, Henry Dixon and Seán T Ó Ceallaigh.

Report of 13 September 1915

The report of 13 September 1915 records visits to the shop of Thomas J Clarke, 75 Parnell Street, on Saturday 11 September by Thomas Byrne, followed by James J Buggy, Piaras Béaslaí, John McGarry and M O’Reilly. On Sunday 12 September, Clarke was visited by Charles S Power and Michael McGinn.

A number of arrivals at various train stations are reported, including the arrival of John O’Hurley and John O’Dea from Limerick Junction, Charles Shannon from Belfast, Patrick O’Malley from Galway and Patrick Hughes from Dundalk. The departure of Joseph McGuinness to Galway, and the return of O’Hurley and O’Dea to Limerick is also noted.

A meeting in the Phoenix Park was attended by, among others, Terence McSwiney, Countess Markievicz and Major John MacBride.

The report concludes with details of those in attendance at a meeting in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street, including Laurence Ginnell, M.P. The report of 20 September 1915 records a meeting in shop of Thomas J Clarke, 75 Parnell Street, on Saturday 18 September, which was attended by Seán MacDiarmada, Thomas Byrne, Joseph McGuinness, Ben Parsons, Piaras Béaslaí, Seán T Ó Ceallaigh, John O’Mahony, Michael J O’Rahilly and Major John MacBride. Clarke was visited later in the day by John Milroy and James J Buggy. On Sunday 19, Clarke was visited by Buggy a second time, along with Michael McGinn and M O’Reilly.

Michael O’Hanrahan and Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows are observed in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street.

The departure of James M Sullivan by train to Limerick is noted.

A report is given of the assembly of around 400 ‘Sinn Fein Volunteers, most of whom carried rifles’ and their march towards Dundrum and Rathfarnham.

The assembly of around 500 members of the National Volunteers is also reported. The Volunteers ‘mostly in uniform, and carrying rifles’ marched to the Phoenix Park where ‘they engaged for some time in field exercises’.

The report concludes with notice of a labour meeting held in Crumlin. An annotation on the report asks ‘At the Labour meeting at Crumlin much was made of an assembly of the Citizen Army at Croydon Park at 4pm. How many attended this assembly’.

A meeting in the office of the Irish Volunteers, 2 Dawson Street, is attended by Michael J O’Rahilly, Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows and Michael O’Hanrahan.

The departure of Seán MacDiarmada by train to Limerick and Peter Hourihan to Mallow is noted. It is observed they ‘returned to Mallow by same train, but in a different compartment’, but were seen talking on the platform before boarding the train.

JJ Walsh is observed in his shop at 26 Blessington Street. An advertisement for Walsh’s shops is found in the enclosed copy of The Workers’ Republic, which includes the by-line ‘Support a victim of British militarism’.

Copies are included of The Workers’ Republic and a pamphlet on the life of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa, written by Terence MacSwiney and published by the O’Donovan Rossa funeral committee.

A number of departures from Dublin are noted, including James M Sullivan to Limerick, Herbert ‘Barney’ Mellows to Kells, Thomas J Clarke, Seán T Ó Ceallaigh and Hugh O’Hehir to Limerick and Piaras Béaslaí to Dundalk.

A meeting on Sunday 26 in the shop of Thomas J Clarke is attended by [James] O’Connor, Michael McGinn and Ben Parsons. Clarke had departed for Limerick.

The report concludes with details of a meeting ‘under the auspices of the Irish Womens’ Franchise League’ in the Phoenix Park, which was attended by around 200 people, and an open air event ‘under the auspices of the 4^th Battalion of the Irish Volunteers’ held in Larkfield, Kimmage.
