Our archivists are diligently working to upload these finding aids into the online catalogue, however due to the volume of material, we anticipate this process will take approximately 2-3 months to complete.<\/p>\n<h3>Records released include:<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; 30-year old records mainly dating to 1994 from a variety of departments and scheduled bodies<br \/>\n&#8211; Anglo-Irish records relating to the peace process and Northern Ireland, including the Good Friday Agreement, from mid-1990s to December 2004, from the Department of the Taoiseach, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Justice and the Office of the Attorney General<br \/>\n&#8211; Minutes of the meetings of the Government for 1994<\/p>\n<h3>Issues covered<\/h3>\n<p>The files shed light on significant social issues, including:<br \/>\n&#8211; Bertie Ahern overruled objections to continue weapons purchases from Israel despite strong reservations from the then minister for foreign affairs, David Andrews<br \/>\n&#8211; Mary Robinson was blocked by the government from taking up a UN role in 1993, as it was believed it would conflict with public expectations of her role as president<br \/>\nRussian ambassador was embarrassed by Boris Yeltsin\u2019s no-show at Shannon Airport, which was a significant news story in 1994<br \/>\n&#8211; A priceless moon rock from the Apollo landing, initially displayed at \u00c1ras an Uachtar\u00e1in, was destroyed in a fire at the Dunsink Observatory in 1977<br \/>\n&#8211; The revelations in 2003 that Freddie Scappaticci, head of the IRA\u2019s internal security unit, was a British spy, &#8220;traumatised&#8221; Sinn F\u00e9in, according to Bertie Ahern and Tony Blair<\/p>\n<p>The State Papers also reveal insights into various historical events and personalities, including the IRA ceasefire in 1994, the Catholic Church&#8217;s turmoil due to paedophile priest scandals, and international reactions to Irish political actions.<\/p>\n<h3>Highlights covered in the media<\/h3>\n<p>During our media preview journalists selected highlights from the releases for coverage in the national media and press.
