About the collaboration

Since 2011, the National Archives of Ireland and Ulster University’s CAIN project have been working together to provide access to important historical documents. The National Archives supports this initiative by offering records from the Departments of the Taoiseach, Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Justice. These records are meticulously selected and digitised by CAIN researchers, ensuring that key documents are preserved and made accessible to the public.

Enhancing public awareness and understanding

This collaboration significantly enhances public understanding of the Northern Ireland conflict. The archives offer valuable insights into the interactions between government officials in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as well as bilateral communications between Dublin and London. By making these records available, the project supports education and research, benefiting students, historians, and public administration professionals.
