Culture Night at the National Archives
Open late to 8pm

Join us to explore the cultural legacy of the Irish language through original archival records.
The National Archives is delighted to open late this Friday, 19 September, for Culture Night 2025. From 5pm to 8pm, visitors are invited to explore our special exhibition:
Irish Language and the 1925 Census of the Gaeltacht.
This exhibition, previously featured at National Ploughing Championship, highlights the Irish Free State’s early efforts to preserve and promote the Irish language. Through original archival records, it explores the 1925 Census and the work of the Gaeltacht Commission, revealing how Irish was integrated into government services, education and public life. Visitors will discover the enduring cultural impact of the language from grassroots activism to modern media and the arts.
The exhibition will be on display in our Bishop Street reception area and we look forward to welcoming you for an evening of history, heritage and celebration.
