Since the launch of the 1926 Census in April, interest in the collection has remained exceptionally strong. In our previous update in May, we reported that nearly 3 million people had visited the website. Visitor numbers have continued to rise since then, with over 547,000 users recorded between May and July. Engagement with the census remains high, with millions of searches, page views, and interactions across the site.
The 1926 Census landing pages continue to be the most visited areas of the website. The main search page has received hundreds of thousands of engaged sessions during this period, and census record pages remain among the most frequently accessed resources. Visitors from Ireland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and across Europe continue to explore the census daily, with mobile devices accounting for the majority of sessions.
What has been updated
The latest release includes:
- Corrections identified through internal review and quality‑assurance checks.
- Updates based on transcription corrections submitted by members of the public, where the original household forms supported a change.
- Redactions for individuals aged over 100 who requested that their personal data not be displayed.
- Improvements to institution records on the interactive map.
- The addition of approximately 1,400 previously missing individuals identified through validation checks.
Further updates completed in July include:
- 1,531 transcription updates submitted by users.
- All remaining missing townlands added to the database.
- A substantial number of missing Form B records incorporated, with more scheduled for future releases.
Report an Update: now live
The Report an Update feature is now fully in place and functioning well. Users can submit corrections directly from the census record they are viewing, ensuring each suggestion arrives with the key information needed for review.
All submissions are logged and added to the processing queue. Each suggestion is checked carefully against the original household forms before verified changes are applied. If your update has not yet appeared on the site, it remains in progress.
Ongoing development
Work is progressing on wider data‑cleansing tasks that will support additional search fields in future releases, including Country of Birth and County of Birth. These enhancements will allow users to explore the census in new ways and make more detailed searches across the dataset.

Updates will continue to be released on a regular basis as further corrections are verified and new material is processed. Researchers are encouraged to visit the website regularly to follow new updates and deepen their understanding of Ireland’s families and communities.
