National Archives exhibition to open in Dromcollogher for centenary commemoration

The National Archives will present a special exhibition in Dromcollogher Community Hall as part of the State’s programme marking the centenary of the Dromcollogher cinema fire. The exhibition forms a central contribution by the Archives to the 2026 commemorative events announced by the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan.

Opening to the public at 4pm on Saturday, 5 September 2026, the exhibition will run throughout September as part of the centenary programme. By situating the exhibition in Dromcollogher Community Hall, the National Archives aims to support reflection, remembrance and local engagement with the history of the tragedy.

Centred on the Dromcollogher Disaster Relief Fund Collection (TSCH/9), the exhibition brings together committee records, correspondence, financial documentation, letters of sympathy, photographs, newspaper cuttings and material relating to the support provided to families in the aftermath of the fire. These records offer important insight into the national and international response to the disaster and the community efforts that followed.

The exhibition is part of a wider programme of State, national and community initiatives developed in collaboration with the local community, Limerick City and County Council, the Office of Public Works and other partners. The principal State commemoration will take place in Dromcollogher on 5 September 2026.
