What the resource contains

The full learning resource has four parts:

  1. a booklet introducing the 1926 Census and its historical context,
  2. a guidance note for teachers on using census records in the classroom,
  3. a set of lesson plans for primary and post-primary levels,
  4. a crossword of key terms.

It connects directly with themes in the primary and post‑primary history curricula — including changes in women’s lives over the twentieth century, the role of individuals and organisations, the lived experience of minorities, the economic forces shaping the period and local history research.

It supports both group work and debate, and helps build the research, analytical and communication skills and historical consciousness central to successful learning.

A full breakdown of the specific curriculum learning outcomes is available within the resource pack.
