The National Archives provides a free Genealogy Advisory Service staffed by professional genealogists. The genealogists will give you advice and guidance. They will not do your family history research for you. Our service operates in-person and online.
In-person Genealogy Advisory Service
Our in-person Genealogy Advisory Service is a drop-in service; no booking is required. The Genealogy Advisory Service is located on the ground floor of the National Archives. You do not need a reader’s ticket to use the service. If you wish to consult the archives after visiting the genealogist, you can apply for a reader’s ticket at the front desk. The service is available from Monday to Friday, 10am–5pm and is closed 1pm–2pm.
Online genealogy service
To use the online service, please download and complete the form with all the information you have about your family history research and email it to query@nationalarchives.ie. You do not need to answer all the questions but the information you give will help the genealogist to review your family information. You will receive a response to your query by email.
When to expect a response
We respond to online queries within 5–10 working days.
