The National Archives has recently published a suite of updated guidance documents and tools to support Departments of State and public bodies in managing their records in compliance with the National Archives Act, 1986.
Departments are encouraged to review the new materials and incorporate them into their records management policies and procedures.
Records Management guidance notes
These guidance notes provide practical advice on managing records throughout their lifecycle, from creation to disposal or transfer for permanent preservation. The notes are tailored to the statutory responsibilities of Departments of State and aim to promote consistent and compliant records management practices. Read the Records Management guidance.
Streamlined Disposal guidance notes
A new set of guidance notes has been developed to assist with the disposal of records that do not warrant permanent preservation. These notes provide a simplified framework for identifying common record types suitable for disposal, helping departments navigate the legal and procedural requirements more efficiently.
